Did Samsung make the gaming monitor of your dreams? Probably yes, the new Odyssey G9 contains within it the most advanced technologies that can be had today, at the base of which we find the Mini LED and Quantum Dot . A union never seen so far in the field of gaming monitors, the vast majority of models stop at Edge Led backlighting, the few displays that have gone to Full LED have highlighted the qualitative gap that is obtained. lifebloombeauty
Now, with the arrival of the Mini LEDs, the leap forward
c ould be exponential, as we saw in the review of the Asus ProArt PA32UCX , one
of the first models to arrive on the market with this technology, but dedicated
to the world of creatives. With the Odyssey G9 Samsung intends to bring the Mini
LEDs into the world of gaming , a certainly apt choice, the only unknowns
remain the price, still shrouded in mystery, and the specifications, not yet
completely clear.
A monitor yet to be discovered
Beyond the announcement, Samsung has given very little
information on the Odyssey G9. We don't know the resolution or even the
dimensions, but since this is the heir to the G9 released last year it seems
highly likely that it will keep the same 49-inch diagonal , even the 32: 9
aspect ratio remains unchanged. Another element that is maintained by the
previous model is the 1000R curvature , one of the most extreme that we have
ever seen, able to wrap the field of vision during the game.
The resolution has not yet been communicated, the current
model reaches 5120x1440 pixels and we believe that Samsung will not go further
even with this new variant, in order not to penalize too much performance
during the game.
Assumptions aside, the certainty is the Quantum Mini LED
technology , which makes its debut in gaming monitors. Until now, Mini LEDs
have only been used in expensive displays for professionals, such as the ProArt
from Asus that we mentioned earlier, costing more than 2500 €. The entrance of
the Mini LEDs changes the cards on the table, the best gaming monitors arrived
on the market with Full LED technology were able to manage 384 zones, an
advanced backlight that however cannot compete with the thousands of LEDs
present in this Odyssey G9 .
The number of LEDs available in the Samsung monitor is still
unknown, however a first effect of the use of Mini LEDs can already be seen,
thanks to the HDR2000 certification : it is the first gaming monitor to reach
this level, so far we had only seen models HDR1000.
Thanks to Quantum Mini LED technology, Samsung's display
should be able to minimize blooming (but this will also depend on the
algorithms that will manage the LEDs), to offer a higher peak brightness than
ever and at the same time a coverage of the very wide color space, thanks to
the use of Quantum Dot. We therefore hope to see this Odyssey G9 as soon as
possible, to understand its real potential and above all the sale price, which
promises to be high.
